About Me

I’m interested in textiles and working with fabric as I feel the quality is more interesting than paper. I prefer to draw with needle and thread rather than pen. Through experience I know hand embroidery is time consuming but the end result presents various techniques and gives a sense of involvement. I think this course is most suitable for me as I’m passionate about textiles and enthusiastic when it comes to trying new things. I know Manchester has a strong sense of heritage of industrial history of the 19th century. The city has a wide variety of architectural buildings which I can use for inspiration. When given a brief I always try to a find a way of incorporating embroidery, especially hand stitching, the detail of the surface texture can be aesthetically pleasing for the viewer.

Keep off the grass.

Zoomed in. (L) 1m x (H) 65cm
This piece I’ve done for the Young Embroiders for a competition entitled ‘On the Move’ using my personal interest in footwear. I’ve embellished each Shoe print with high use of stitch and surface texture with beads, also taking into colour into consideration.

Layered Varnish Print

I’ve created my photocopy by printing my design onto tracing paper, and repeated. Then varnished printed onto fabric, seeing the fabric through the image adds texture and layers.

Monoprint collage experiment

This print is created from a collo-graph, but first I’ve collaged red paper representing nail varnish, there slightly of set, but I feel that’s more interesting.

Monoprint onto fabric

Experimented mono-printing onto fabric, this result I prefer more than paper, as I really like how the ink highlights the fibres in the fabrics texture.

Stitched Starry Night

This piece, I’ve done in my own time, I wanted to recreate Van Gogh’s’ ‘Starry Night’ using stitch as I interpret his brush marks with stitches.

Body Work-final piece two

These are the templates of a shoe with an image of skeletons merge together. I’ve displayed this on window so that the light will make the paper show the detail up, I’m inspired by x-rays.

Body Work - final piece

From my photocopies of templates I fused them together inside a plastic wallet, by doing this it made it firmer to work with to construct a shoe.
